VITAMINS AND THEIR ROLE IN BODY

Vitamins are not required in very large quantity but vitamins plays vital role in human body . Each vitamin plays different role  for proper function of our body and human body is incapable of producing vitamins except vit. D and vit. K . This means we required these vitamins daily in our diet  and their deficiency  can cause diseases like Anaemia , skin disease ,beriberi  etc and hence we have  to depend on various sources of food.

water soluble : vitamin - B complex and vitamin

Vitamin-A:  (Retinol)
Deficiency diseases: Colour blindness, xerophthalmina
excess quantity diseases: Hypervitaminosis, liver problem , osteoporosis.
sources : milk , egg, cheese, green vegetable, fish liver oil 


Vitamin-B1: (thymine )


Deficiency diseases: beriberi
sources :milk , egg, cheese, green vegetable,liver  ground nuts , rapseed , dried chilli, pulses.


Vitamin-B2: (RIBOFLAVION)


Deficiency diseases: cracking of skin , redish eye , cracking of tongue

Vitamin-B3: NICOTINAMIDE  or niacin

Deficiency diseases: whiteness of hair, mental retardness
excess quantity diseases: dyspepsia(indigestion) cardic arrhythmias

Vitamin B5 : Pantothenic acid

Deficiency diseases: pellagra or 4-D syndrome
sources :milk , egg, cheese, green vegetable, fish liver oil 


Vitamin-B6: Pyridoxine

Deficiency diseases:  aneamia skin diseases

Vitamin-B7: Biotin

Deficiency diseases:  paralysis , body pain, hair falling

Vitamin -B11: Folic acid

Deficiency diseases: Anaemia, jaundice, teroile , glutemic

Vitamin-B12: Cynocobalamine
Deficiency diseases: anaemia, diarrhora

Vitamin-C: Ascorbic acid

Deficiency diseases: scurvy, swelling in gum
excess quantity diseases: diarrhoea
sources :lemon ,oranges .tomato. sour substances sprouted grains.


Vitamin-D: CAlciferol

Deficiency diseases: Rickets( in children)& osteomalasia (in adults)
sources :milk , egg, fish liver oil .

Vitamin -E: Tocopherol

Deficiency diseases:less fertility 
sources :milk , egg, butter, green vegetable, vegetable oil ,wheat sprouted grains.

Vitamin -k  phylloquinone.

Deficiency diseases: non clotting of blood 
sources: tomato soybean oil , green vegetabable.



IMPORTANT POINTS AND FACTS RELATED TO  VITAMINS:
  • Funk was the  first person to discover vitamins
  • scurvy is due to deficiency of vit-c
  • osteomalacia in adult is caused by deficiency of vit-d
  • xerophthamia is caused due to deficiency of vit -A
  • cobalt containing vitamin is vitamin B12
  • Vitanins often act as co enzymes
  • a steroid vitamin is vit.-D
  • vit-E prevents keratinisation of epidermal cell
  • vit d is also know as sunshine vitamin
  • calcium deficiency in blood is due to vit-D
  • VITAMIN -k controll external bleeding
  • the haemorrhagic disease of new born is caused by vik -k
  • vit-k is synthesis in our colon  by the bacteria and than  from there it is absorbed.
